Randy Moss became one of the best wide receivers the NFL has ever seen during his 14-year career (1998-2010, 2012). Most notably playing for the Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots, the former Marshall star totaled 982 catches for 15,292 yards and 156 touchdowns, earning a spot on the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team and induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Since retiring, Moss has stayed busy, beginning his broadcasting career with FOX Sports in 2012 before joining ESPN in 2016, where he continues to appear on "Sunday NFL Countdown" and "Monday Night Countdown." The former four-time All-Pro also remained on the field at the high school level, serving as an assistant for Victory Christian Center School in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Moss has also been a major fishing enthusiast, both during his NFL career and after his retirement. In fact, he has said he goes out and fishes several times a week, using it as his “therapist.” He even started his own YouTube series called “Chasing 10 with Randy Moss,” where he attempts to catch a 10-pound largemouth bass. But Moss wasn’t done there in the fishing world.
This week, it was announced that Moss will be joining World Bass Enterprises, becoming the official ambassador of “The Champions,” a five-day event at Old Hickory Lake at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville, Tennessee, that will crown the first-ever World Bass Fishing Champion. The tournament will be held from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1 and will feature 50 of the top professionals from the Bassmaster Elite Series and Major League Fishing’s Bass Pro Tour.
The event will also include a record $3.25 million purse, with the first-place finisher receiving $1.25 million. The second and third-place fishers will also receive notable cash prizes of $500,000 and $300,000, respectively.
"We told you something big was coming…" World Bass Enterprises wrote on Instagram, which Moss shared on his story. "Today, it’s official. The press release is live: @randygmoss, legendary wide receiver, Hall of Famer and lifelong angler, joins World Bass Enterprises as their official Ambassador for The Champions featuring a record-setting $3+ million purse, the largest purse in bass fishing history. And this is just the beginning. WBE will also serve as presenting partner of @chasing10fishing with Randy Moss, debuting on YouTube in the coming weeks. A defining moment for the sport."
Now, Moss is set to bring that same passion and star power to the sport he’s long embraced, taking on a new role that could help elevate bass fishing to an even bigger stage.
