NFL Legend Snubs Rob Gronkowski After Travis Kelce Decision

Shannon Sharpe has never shied away from strong football opinions, and this time, he has made a comment on Travis Kelce.

While speaking with sports media personality David Schmulenson, the NFL legend was asked to choose between two icons at tight end. His answer leaned toward today’s era, even while showing respect to the past.

Sharpe picked Kelce over Rob Gronkowski in the greatest tight end debate.

"Ooh-wee! I believe Travis Kelce is the greatest tight end that's ever played." Sharpe said.

However, Sharpe framed the decision as a personal choice rather than a clear separation. He explained that the difference between the two comes down to preference, not dominance.

"When you're talking about greats, you start nitpicking," Sharpe said. "I mean, you look at the Pro Bowls, you look at the All-Pros, you look at the thousand-catch seasons, you look at the numbers, they're very, very close.

"It's a matter, do you like sushi or do you like barbecue? Me, I like barbecue. Some people might like sushi, so you're gonna say sushi, 'I'll take sushi over barbecue.' It is razor thin, but for me, those are the two greatest tight ends that have ever played, and you're talking about a guy that played the game and played at an elite level. For me, those are the two greatest players that have played that position."

Gronkowski’s resume is stacked with championships (four Super Bowl titles) and physical dominance. He helped define the Patriots' dynasty (nine seasons) and later played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won a title there. His mix of size, power and red-zone impact made him a nightmare for defenses. Many still view him as the most unstoppable tight end ever.

Kelce’s case looks different but is just as strong. His chemistry with Patrick Mahomes turned the tight end spot more productive. Seven straight 1,000-yard seasons changed expectations for the position. His postseason production, including three championships, further separates him from nearly everyone who came before.

Even during a down year, Kelce has remained the focal point of the Kansas City Chiefs' offense. At 36, questions about his future exist with the Chiefs missing the playoffs, but his legacy feels secure.
