Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens is, without a doubt, one of the greatest to ever do it. A testament to this fact is how the former San Francisco 49ers superstar earned five All-Pro nods and six Pro Bowl selections in what was a decorated 15-year NFL career. Owens was also named as part of the Hall of Fame All-Decade Team of the 2000s before being officially inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
Owens has also done quite well for himself since he retired from the NFL in 2010. The 51-year-old has entered the wine business with his Eighty-One wine label, and also signed with NFL legend Michael Strahan’s SMAC Entertainment agency to amplify Owens’ ventures in media and entertainment.
Owens’ core post-NFL brand effort, however, is his lifestyle and apparel brand, Prototype81, which he established in 2018. On Saturday, the former Dallas Cowboys wideout announced an exciting update about his highly popular clothing line.
Owens took to social media to share a post from Model Pickleball Tournament about the upcoming Los Angeles Fashion Week on Oct. 12. In its post, the tournament shared that Owens’ Prototype81 will be a sponsor and will field a team for the tournament at the Calabasas Pickleball Club.
“@prototype81ofl is ready! October 12th join us at @calabasaspickleballclub for a day of Fashion, Fun and Competition! Experience @prototype81ofl on and off the courts with a brand new Pickleball collection and a team competing for #1!! ️RSVP today for our early bird free GA or grab your VIP pass at the link in bio!” the Instagram post read.
Owens shared the post via his Instagram stories.

Model Pickleball is a hybrid event that blends the highly popular sport, fashion and influencer culture. The upcoming tournament will be followed by a fashion show in the evening, which will be a perfect venue for Owens to showcase his latest pieces from Prototype81.
Prototype81 prides itself in being a “lifestyle & apparel brand with clothing designed to express, inspire & empower active living.” The brand has a PickleBall Collection, which features shirts, shorts, skirts, hats and jackets that are all specially designed for the sport.
The Model Pickleball Tournament and Fashion Show aligns perfectly with Prototype81’s branding, which aims to “create stylish, adaptable, performance-driven activewear that help you feel your best, so you can be your best.”
In terms of his personal branding, this move allows Owens to strengthen his image as a lifestyle mogul as he continues to bridge sports, fashion and influencer marketing.
Owens is following a proven business trajectory comparable to that of other big-name athletes who have leveraged their popularity to create athlete-owned brands. This includes the likes of LeBron James (UNINTERRUPTED, SpringHill Company, Lobos 1707 Tequila), Tom Brady (TB12 Sports, BRADY Brand) and Michael Jordan (Jordan Brand), to name a few.
For his part, Owens has chosen to focus on a niche market by riding the Pickleball hype train, which has seen a significant rise in investment circles among celebrities and athletes lately.
Prototype81, however, has a lot more to offer on top of its PickleBall Collection. This partnership with Model Pickleball is a clear indication of how the brand is positioning itself in the market. Owens has taken an active approach to promoting his brand, which means that fans can expect exciting collections and collaborations in the future.
