There was no shortage of action in the highly anticipated Week 9 showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills. Both teams entered the matchup with momentum on their side, with the Bills heading into the game following a 40-9 victory over the Carolina Panthers. The Chiefs, on the other hand, were on the heels of three straight wins.
The Bills, however, turned out to be the superior team. Buffalo secured a big win over their AFC rivals, 28-21, with Josh Allen leading the charge with 23-of-26 completed passes for 273 yards and one touchdown.
The Bills improved to 6-2 with the win, while the Chiefs fell to 5-4.
The NFL announced its punishments for Week 9 on Saturday, and the Chiefs-Bills game produced no less than four fines, with all of them coming from Buffalo’s side.
The most significant fine was $14,714 for defensive back Christian Benford, who was assessed for unnecessary roughness. He was penalized for use of the helmet during the first quarter.
Buffalo was flagged for a penalty at the 12:57 mark of the second quarter. Running back Ty Johnson had a facemask violation, which led to a 15-yard penalty during the game. Upon review, the NFL fined Johnson $10,778 for unnecessary roughness.
Finally, wide receiver Elijah Moore and Allen were both punished for their touchdown celebration late in the third quarter. The two were seen making a throat slash gesture toward each other after the TD, and while it was not penalized during the game, the NFL decided to punish both players after reviewing the incident. Moore was fined $13,888, while Allen was docked $14,491.
The four fines totaled $53,871.
The Bills will return to action on Sunday for a Week 10 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. The Chiefs, on the other hand, are on their bye. They will be back on the field in Week 11 against the Denver Broncos.
