NFL Makes Decision On Peacock Regular Season Game

The NFL has made an effort to incorporate more streaming exclusives into its programming in recent years — starting with playoff games and holiday matchups. But it's yet to really apply those efforts to the regular season outside of last year's Week 1 opener... until now.

According to NBC's ProFootballTalk, a Week 17 Saturday night game will stream exclusively on Peacock in 2025 with the NFL and NBCUniversal announcing the decision for December 27's primetime matchup earlier this morning.

Who exactly will play in that time slot is still TBD, as it lines up with the flexible part of the league's schedule, which attempts to ensure the games that really matter are being seen by the biggest possible audience late in the year.

This year's Peacock stream will mark the fourth time an NFL game is shown exclusively on the NBC-owned platform. With the previous instances being:

  • 2024, Week 1, Eagles vs. Packers
  • 2023, Wild Card, Chiefs vs. Dolphins
  • 2023, Week 16, Bills vs. Chargers

For fans that reside in the two cities participating this year, local NBC affiliates will also be broadcasting the game so fans closest to the action can still have access to watching their teams.

With more and more people jumping to streaming for their TV-watching needs, it's understandable why the league wants to increase its presence on those kinds of platforms.

However for fans that want to watch their football without the additional cost of those a la carte options, they'll have to miss out on at least one game this winter.
