Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers pulled off a big win in Week 14 against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chargers escaped with a 22-19 victory in overtime. The game was decided after L.A. picked off Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts on the final play of the game, resulting in the Chargers’ second straight win.

Herbert, who played through a fractured left hand, was far from his best against the defending champions. The Pro Bowl quarterback finished with 12-of-26 completed passes for 139 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Herbert was also sacked seven times, but he salvaged his performance by logging 66 rushing yards on 10 carries.

One of the more contentious incidents in the game involved Herbert and teammate Kimani Vidal. The league has reviewed the play in question and has made a final punishment decision.

Herbert deserves a lot of credit for being available against the Eagles. The 27-year-old fractured his non-throwing hand in L.A.’s last game, and he had to undergo surgery to address the injury. Herbert, however, was back on the field less than a week after going under the knife. The former Oregon Ducks star wore a protective cast on his left hand, which significantly affected his play throughout the game.

Herbert was picked off by the Eagles late in the second quarter. Philly cornerback Adoree’ Jackson intercepted Herbert's pass to rookie tight end Oronde Gadsen II with time winding down in the half.

Chargers running back Kimani Vidal came charging in with a tackle on Jackson, which was deemed excessive by the game officials. Vidal was called for an unnecessary roughness violation after throwing Jackson to the ground, resulting in a 15-yard penalty for the Chargers.

The NFL Officiating Department has reviewed the incident and has made its final decision. The good news for Vidal and the Chargers is that he has not been fined for his actions in the game. Vidal was not included in the list of fines that was announced on Saturday via the league’s gameday accountability report.

For context, 12 incidents of unnecessary roughness were fined in Week 14. Two of them were from the Chargers-Eagles game. Cameron Latu and Andre’ Sam, both from Philadelphia, were fined $4,666 and $4,741, respectively, for use of the helmet.

Herbert and the Chargers, now 9-4, are back in action on Sunday in a big game against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. The 8-5 Eagles, on the other hand, will be looking to snap their three-game losing streak against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
