  • Thursday's victory marked an important milestone for head coach Jim Harbaugh .
  • The Chargers improved to 5-3; the next game is against the Titans on November 2.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers secured a big win on Thursday night against the Minnesota Vikings. Justin Herbert led the charge for L.A., completing 18-of-25 passes for 227 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. The Chargers star quarterback also added seven carries for 62 rushing yards, leading his team to a convincing 37-10 blowout win over the Minnesota Vikings.

The Chargers improved to 5-3 after their primetime win on Thursday night. It was a nice bounce-back win for Harbaugh and his squad following their 38-24 loss to Daniel Jones the 6-1 Indianapolis Colts in Week 7.

Harbaugh is now in his second season with the Chargers. Last year, the former AP Coach of the Year led his team to an 11-6 record for the No. 2 seed in the AFC West. However, L.A.’s campaign ended in the first round of the NFL playoffs following a 32-12 defeat against the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round.

Before he was a head coach in the NFL — he also coached the San Francisco 49ers between 2011 and 2024 — Harbaugh was a star quarterback in the league. His best season was 1995 with the Indianapolis Colts, when he was named a Pro Bowler and finished fourth in the MVP voting. That season, Harbaugh logged 200-of-314 completed passes (63.7%) for 2,575 yards and a career-best 17 touchdowns. He also led the Colts all the way to the Conference Championship, where they would lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 20-16.

On Thursday, the NFL took to social media to announce Harbaugh’s historic feat following L.A.’s win over Minnesota.

“Jim Harbaugh becomes the 2nd person in NFL history with 60+ regular season wins as a starting QB and as a head coach, joining HOF Norm Van Brocklin ”

Thursday’s victory marked Harbaugh’s 16th win as the Chargers HC. He also secured 44 wins during his four-year stint with the Niners. He now has 60 total wins as a head coach. As a starting QB, Harbaugh has a 64-74-0 record.

This latest accomplishment speaks volumes about Harbaugh’s successful transition from a star quarterback to an NFL head coach.

Harbaugh will have a chance to add to his winning record when the Chargers return to action in Week 9. Up next for them is a road matchup against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, Nov. 2. Kickoff from Nissan Stadium is scheduled at 2:00 p.m. ET.
