NFL Makes Punishment Announcement After Kenneth Walker Incident

The Kansas City Chiefs are entering Sunday’s matchup against the New York Jets looking to end their two-game skid and get back in the win column.

A huge reason the Chiefs have lost two straight is because in those two losses, their best offensive player this season, Kenneth Walker, was limited. Walker has been incredible in his first season with the Chiefs, signed this offseason to a three-year deal worth $43 million.

Over his past two games, the 26-year-old running back has rushed for just 105 total yards on 35 attempts.

Walker has averaged 5.5 yards per carry on the season, so it is clear that Kansas City needs him and they need to establish the run game early on Sunday.

During Kansas City’s loss in Week 8 against the Denver Broncos, Denver did whatever they could to limit Walker and did a solid job keeping him under 70 rushing yards.

However, they did commit some fouls in the process. In the first quarter, Walker rushed for a four-yard gain but Broncos defensive end Eyioma Uwazurike stopped him by grabbing his facemask.

The incident resulted in a 15-yard penalty and an automatic first down for Kansas City. The Chiefs would go on to score a touchdown on the same drive.

That is not the only penalty Uwazurike will receive, however. Committing a personal foul is worthy of further review by the NFL to see if it warrants a fine.

On Saturday, the NFL did decide to fine the Broncos defensive lineman $6,361 for his actions toward Walker, via Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette.

The league typically fines $11,941 for a first-time incident involving a facemask penalty, per the NFL fines and appeals schedule, so it could have been worse for Uwazurike.

With the fine now settled, the focus shifts back to Kansas City, where Walker will look to bounce back Sunday and remind everyone why the Chiefs made him one of their highest-paid offensive players this offseason.
