Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers improved to 8-4 after defeating the Las Vegas Raiders 31-14 in Week 13.
Herbert had a solid performance, completing 15-of-20 passes for 151 yards, two touchdowns, one interception and a 108.5 passer rating. He was also sacked three times, resulting in a loss of 11 yards.
On third-and-4 with 4:07 left in the fourth quarter, Herbert connected with wide receiver Quentin Johnston for a 10-yard gain. However, Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for shoving Herbert to the ground after throwing the ball.
It was a 15-yard penalty, giving the Chargers a fresh set of downs. The drive ended in a touchdown, giving Los Angeles a 31-14 lead.
Not only did Crosby aid in the Chargers' touchdown drive, but the penalty meant he could receive more punishment. According to the NFL's guidelines, a player can be fined $14,491 for unsportsmanlike conduct. That can reach $20,288 for a second offense in the same season.
On Saturday, the NFL announced its Week 13 gameday accountability report. The good news for Crosby is that he avoided a fine. The only players on the Raiders who got fined from Week 13 were linebacker Devin White (taunting, $6,500) and cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly (violent gesture, $5,722).
After not receiving another punishment, Crosby is looking to help the 2-10 Raiders snap their six-game losing streak. They host the 10-2 Denver Broncos in Week 14.
As for the recipient of his shove, Herbert is trying to keep the Chargers hot with an upcoming "Monday Night Football" matchup against the 8-4 Philadelphia Eagles. The quarterback is listed as questionable due to a left hand injury.
