Tyler Shough and the New Orleans Saints improved to 4-10 after defeating the Carolina Panthers 20-17 in Week 15. It's their second straight win after beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the week before.
It marked Shough's sixth-career start after being taken in the sepcond round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He finished the game completing 24-of-32 passes for 272 yards, one touchdown, zero interceptions and a 110.4 passer rating.
On third-and-13 with 12:28 left in the second quarter, he completed a 16-yard pass to wide receiver Devaughn Vele. However, Panthers defensive end A'Shawn Robinson was also called for a roughing the passer penalty.
The ball moved up 31 yards to the Saints' 45-yard line. By the end of the drive, New Orleans scored a four-yard rushing touchdown, tying the game at 7-7 following the extra point.
Robinson's penalty not only cost 15 yards of field position, but also meant the NFL would be reviewing the play for another punishment. According to the league's rules enforcement guidelines, Players can earn a $17,389 fine for roughing the passer. That amount can be increased to $23,186 for a second offense in the same season.
The NFL announced its Week 15 game day accountability report on Saturday. Robinson did not appear on the list, meaning he officially did not receive a fine for his hit on Shough. In total, the NFL handed out 22 fines, which is five more than in Week 14.
With this now behind him, Robinson is looking to help the Panthers (7-7) pick up a Week 16 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It's a home matchup, with the winner taking sole possession of the NFC South.
As for the recipient of his hit, Shough and the Saints host the 3-11 New York Jets. They're looking to stay hot and pick up a third straight win.
