The NFL decided to give us a bonus "Monday Night Football" matchup in Week 14, and you won't see us complaining. The Miami Dolphins will host the Tennessee Titans in an AFC showdown, but we're focusing on the NFC battle between the New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers.
The Packers looked dead and buried after starting the year 3-6, but Green Bay has rattled off three straight wins to get right back into the NFC playoff picture. The biggest reason GB has been able to turn the season around is Jordan Love, who has racked up 857 passing yards, eight passing touchdowns and no interceptions over the last three games.
Love is starting to look like the franchise quarterback he was drafted to become, and the Packers are now in a position to steal a wild-card spot in the NFC.
As for the Giants, they're also trending upward. Tommy DeVito looked lost in his first three appearances off the bench, but he's rebounded nicely to lead New York to two straight victories. The undrafted rookie has gone 35-51 for 437 yards, five touchdown passes and no interceptions over his last two starts.
The Giants would be on the cusp of playoff contention with a win on Monday night, but a loss would likely end their season.
DeVito is playing much better than he was when he first took over the starting job, but this Giants offense still isn't a feared unit. New York managed just 292 yards of offense against the Washington Commanders and 220 yards against the New England Patriots in its last two games. The Giants also rank 31st in the NFL in red-zone touchdown percentage, and the Packers have the ninth-ranked red-zone defense in the league.
This line is simply too high. DeVito has played four full games this season, and he hasn't attempted more than 27 pass attempts in any of them. That includes two blowout losses in which the Giants had to play from behind all game.
The weakness of this Green Bay defense is in the running game, so we expect New York to pound the rock with Saquon Barkley early and often to take pressure off DeVito.
