NFL OFFENSIVE LINE OF THE WEEK

My NFL Offensive Line Of The Week for Week 4 is the Los Angeles Chargers. This is a group that has gone from being projected to be one of the best in the league preseason to one of the most maligned over recent weeks. They’ve had multiple lineups the last three weeks & have had to deal with All-Pro’s Cory Linsley & Rashawn Slater being injured. Although Linsley made his return this past week, Slater was lost for the season. Questions arose as to who would replace such an incredible player in the most important position in the field outside of quarterback. Questions also remained about who would emerge in the right tackle spot. Those questions were not only answered, but answered emphatically.

RUN GAME

In the run game, the day was rather tamed, but extremely effective. Austin Eckler had 13 carries for 60 yards and two touchdowns. The 4.6 yards per carry made for a very solid and serviceable day in that department. Zone schemes are absolutely the best way to attack teams for the Chargers. With Eckler’s lateral ability & the injuries they’ve suffered, you should stick to your bread and butter and that’s what they do. You would love to see more gap scheme and power runs, but if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Solid day in the run game.

PASS PRO

In pass protection the big guys were outstanding. Justin Herbert went 27/39 for 340 yards and two touchdowns. On almost 40 drop backs, he was only pressured FOUR times. In the NFL, days like that are rarely seen. The Texans don’t posses the greatest pass rush in the league, but they’ve been very solid to start the 2022 campaign. However, that hot start was completely stifled by the Chargers OL. Particularly impressive was rookie LT Jamaree Salyer & C Cory Linsley allowing ZERO pressures on those drop backs. Passing off stunts, holding interior DL on the line of scrimmage & washing guys up field past Herbert on the edges was on full display. Jamaree Salyer, Matt Feiler, Cory Linsley, Zion Johnson & Trey Pipkins take a bow!
