NFL OFFENSIVE LINE RANKINGS 2022 

NFL offensive linemen are often the most forgotten about group on the team. To the die hard and causal fan alike, the offensive line usually takes a back seat when receiving praise. However, if you truly know anything about the game, you know just how incredibly important they are. The unsung heroes and the undoubted backbone of the entire team, the offensive line is instrumental to any success. Here are the top five units heading into the 2022 NFL season.

1. Philadelphia Eagles: With the injury to Bucs All-Pro Center Ryan Jensen, I’ve decided to bump the Eagles ahead to number one. Led by 4x All-Pro Center Jason Kelce and 2x All-Pro Right Tackle Lane Johnson, the Eagles are as rock solid as any group in football. In 2021, they led the NFL in rushing yards per game. They also finished 8th in sacks allowed. It should be noted that they have one of the best OL coaches ever in Jeff Stoutland. T Jordan Mailata, G Landon Dickerson, and G Issac Seumalo round out the OL for the Philadelphia front. This unit is as dependable as there is and thus they get the number one spot.
2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: As mentioned above, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in my opinion, has the best OL in football when healthy and whole. Despite the loss of Pro-Bowl Guard Ali Marpet (retirement), Guard Alex Cappa (free agency) and presumably the All-Pro Center Ryan Jensen (injury) the Bucs front will still be a top group in football. All-Pro Tackle Tristan Wirfs and the tenured Donovan Smith are as good of a tackle duo as there is in the NFL. Additionally, respected Veteran Guard Shaq Mason was added in the offseason. The Bucs will likely add a veteran like Center JC Tretter in the coming weeks. This unit gave up the least amount of sacks in 2021. Expect more of the same in 2022.
3. Kansas City Chiefs: After the 2021 Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs made protecting MVP QB Patrick Mahomes a top priority. In the 2021 offseason they acquired All-Pro Guard Joe Thuney, Pro Bowl Tackle Orlando Brown, Center Creed Humphrey and Guard Trey Smith. The latter two were named to the PWFA All-Rookie Team. Retooling the line as fast as the Chiefs did is one of the most impressive feats from a front office in football history. The group gave up the 4th least amount of sacks in 2021 and will only get better going forward.
4. Cleveland Browns: The Cleveland Browns have unquestionably been the most consistent OL of the last three seasons. In fact, over the last three years, no team has more rushing yards per game. 4x All-Pro Guard Joel Bitonio, 2x All-Pro Tackle Jack Conklin, 2x All-Pro Guard Wyatt Teller make up the big three. 2020 PWFA All-Rookie Team Tackle Jedrick Wills looks to continue to bounce back from lower extremity injuries. When healthy, Wills has played as good as any young lineman in the sport. Losing veteran Center JC Tretter hurts, but the Browns seem to have faith in replacement Nick Harris. This group could climb to number one by season end.
5. Los Angeles Chargers: Admittedly, this pick is more projection than anything, but I love what the Chargers did this offseason. In 2021, the Chargers were 4th in total offense. 2x All-Pro Center Cory Linsley and All-Pro Tackle Rashawn Slater are the premiere talents of the group. However, with the addition of college All-Americans Guard Zion Johnson and Guard/Tackle Jamaree Salyer, the Chargers have likely struck gold. If Tackle Trey Pipkins III can hold up, this group will irrefutably be a top performer this year.
