NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year betting odds and prediction

In a year where only one quarterback was selected in the first two rounds, Offensive Rookie of the Year feels wide open.

Last year it was WR Ja'Marr Chase who brought home the honors. It was two QBs in 2019 and 2020 with Kyler Murray and Justin Herbert, and two straight RBs prior to that in Alvin Kamara and Saquon Barkley.
It's a betting market with a few different paths to take, and there is certainly value to be found on the board.

Offensive Rookie of the Year betting odds

This market could go in a lot of ways, so let's expand the top of the board to show the top 20 to win Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. With a lack of top-end quarterback talent, the list is full of receivers and running backs. Odds are via DraftKings.

  1. Chris Olave (+750)
  2. Breece Hall (+750)
  3. Kenny Pickett (+900)
  4. Drake London (+900)
  5. Skyy Moore (+1000)
  6. Treylon Burks (+1000)
  7. Jalen Tolbert (+1000)
  8. Garrett Wilson (+1000)
  9. Kenneth Walker III (+1200)
  10. Christian Watson (+1200)
  11. James Cook (+1500)
  12. Jameson Williams (+1800)
  13. Dameon Pierce (+1800)
  14. Romeo Doubs (+2000)
  15. Jahan Dotson (+2000)
  16. George Pickens (+2500)
  17. Desmond Ridder (+2500)
  18. Rachaad White (+3000)
  19. David Bell (+3000)
  20. Alec Pierce (+3000)

Chris Olave and Breece Hall are the two favorites at +750. Olave is set to start at receiver for New Orleans, and Hall figures to be involved with the Jets as one of their running backs.

Scanning the board, a few names I'd like us to eliminate from contention: Kenny Pickett, Drake London and Treylon Burks.

Pickett and Burks have reportedly both had poor camps this summer. Pickett is currently third on the Steelers depth chart at quarterback despite the team spending a first round pick on the former Pitt QB. Burks has been running with the backups and seems to be working his way up the WR rotation.

As for London, this is no disrespect to him, but with Kyle Pitts in town commanding so much of the offense, I don't envision enough volume for him to put up the numbers needed to win this award.

When considering a bet on OROY, there is some logic to be had in projecting a role that might not exist right now. Injuries and role changes happen every year in the NFL. Two of our featured picks meet that criteria.

James Cook +1500

Cook is a running back, drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the second round. Cook is the younger brother to Vikings star RB Dalvin, and was a member of Georgia's national championship team this past season.

What Cook brings to the table is a pass-catching ability and game-changing speed. While Cook is currently behind Devin Singletary on the Buffalo depth chart, the Bills were no strangers to shuffling their RBs in and out last year.

Cook figures to see a nice chunk of snaps to start and could have an expanded role grow as the season progresses. Aiding Cook's ROY chances are the offense he has joined. Few teams are sporting the elite scoring ability like the Bills, which could really help inflate Cook's stats as the season goes on. If Singletary were to become ineffective or get hurt, Cook could be in line for 15+ touches a game, with plenty of touchdowns to potentially accompany that work.

Unlike MVP, Offensive Rookie of the Year has had a much more diverse group of position winners. Since 2013, four running backs have won this award, and the two most recent, Alvin Kamara and Saquon Barkley, both brought the same type of pass-catching ability to the table that Cook will be.

Desmond Ridder +2500

Quarterback is king, and even with Ridder not currently the starter for Atlanta, that could change in a hurry. One injury to Marcus Mariota and Ridder slots in as the Falcons starting QB.

A stable season out of the young passer could be enough to lift him into the Offensive Rookie of the Year conversation. Atlanta has had some down years and just traded away their franchise stalwart at the position in Matt Ryan.

If Ridder comes in and unlocks the most out of his two young pass-catchers in the aforementioned Drake London and Kyle Pitts, he'll have a compelling case for this award. Again, Ridder is not the starter, so something would have to change on that front before October strikes for the third-round pick to win this.
