NFL player prop: Sun God to shine in Lone Star State

Five weeks after hosting their traditional Thanksgiving games, the Cowboys and Lions will square off at AT&T Stadium on Saturday night. Detroit just clinched its first division title since 1993, when three different quarterbacks — Rodney Peete, Erik Kramer and Andre Ware — started and earned victories. Jared Goff has been at the controls throughout this 11-4 season, and as he prepares to duel with Dak Prescott, his favorite receiver earns our support for top prop:

The bet: Over 6½ receptions for Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (FanDuel)

Famously motivated by falling to the fourth round in the 2021 draft, St. Brown has become one of the league’s elite weapons. The USC product readily rattles off the 16 wideouts selected ahead of him, and he has outperformed all of them but the Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase.

So far this season, St. Brown has exactly matched his 2022 totals for targets (146) and receptions (106). Despite playing two fewer games — 14 vs. 16 — he has already set new career highs for receiving yards and touchdowns. And he’s averaging 7.6 catches per game, which is more than Dallas counterpart CeeDee Lamb (7.3).

The Cowboys play man coverage at the highest rate in the league, which has led to some high reception totals for opposing No. 1 receivers. Both the Eagles’ A.J. Brown and the Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill posted nine catches against their defense in recent weeks.

Viewing himself as the equal of those two and Lamb, St. Brown will continue to prove the doubters wrong.
