NFL players could be fined for breaking coronavirus-related protocols?

The 2020 NFL season might not happen due to the coronavirus pandemic, but if it's able to get underway, all players will be subject to strict health and safety protocols on and off the field.

The NFLPA had a two-hour conference call on Thursday with team player reps and medical director Thom Mayer to discuss various health and safety protocols along with various other topics surrounding the 2020 campaign amid COVID-19 concerns.

According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, players were told they could be fined for detrimental conduct if they are found to have engaged in "reckless" behavior while away from team facilities. That conduct could include eating out at restaurants and using ride-sharing services such as Uber or Lyft.

Players on the call voiced their concerns about beginning the season amid the coronavirus pandemic and its rising number of cases in many states. Graziano added that a majority of players want all of their questions answered before they begin play.

The NFL still is on schedule to begin training camps on July 28, and the league has largely stayed on track since the pandemic started in March.

The league year and free agency began in mid-March, and the virtual NFL draft was held in April. Although the schedule release was pushed back until early May, the 2020 regular season is on schedule to start Sept. 10 with the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Tennessee Titans.

As for the preseason, it'll be a bit different this season. The league canceled the Hall of Fame game last week and postponed the Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony to 2021. The NFLPA also voted to play no preseason games this year due to the virus.
