As expected, Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has been as active as any general manager could be in the NFL.
Within the final week of the trade deadline, Roseman has struck two deals with the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens. The Eagles have acquired cornerbacks Michael Carter II and Jaire Alexander to fill an immediate need at the position.
Philly has addressed their cornerback position, but there is still work to be done on defense. Every Eagles fan wants the team to add an edge rusher, and so does the franchise, but the right deal has to fall into place. There might be one that will not only make fans happy, but make Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio happy as well.
NFL reporter Cameron Wolfe shared that the Eagles would like to make a trade with the Dolphins to acquire EDGE Jaelan Phillips if the price is right. Wolfe added that Fangio holds Phillips in high regard, having coached him in Miami back in 2023.
Phillips is currently in his fifth season in the NFL, having recorded 26 career sacks and 177 tackles. This season, he has three sacks and seven quarterback hits in nine games with the Dolphins.
The Eagles' edge rushers have struggled all season, with only 5.5 sacks recorded through the first eight games of the season. Za'Darius Smith leads the way with 1.5 sacks, but he retired weeks ago, which only exacerbates the problem.
Philly is hoping to get a boost when Brandon Graham becomes active after the bye week against the Green Bay Packers. The Eagles need more of a guy who will be a full-time replacement for Smith, as Graham will only step in with pass-rushing situations.
If the Eagles can acquire Phillips and get Nolan Smith back from the IR, this defense will be in much better shape for their playoff push and eventual Super Bowl run in the postseason.
