Despite being found not guilty of assaulting his former chef on Tuesday, agent NFL wide receiver Stefon Diggs could still face discipline from the NFL.

Stefon Diggs was visibly emotional after being found not guilty of assaulting Mila Adams, his personal chef. Diggs faced strangulation and assault charges, but was acquitted after a short two-day trial.

However, Diggs’ acquittal doesn’t necessarily mean that he’ll be eligible to resume football as soon as possible.

Per Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the NFL said they’re still investigating Diggs’ legal issue. A spokesperson gave Florio the following statement:

“We have been monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review of the Personal Conduct Policy.”

As Florio noted, Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was suspended 11 games by the NFL after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct. Watson was never indicted.

Veteran running back Kareem hunt served an eight-game suspension in 2019 after a video surfaced of him kicking a woman at a Cleveland hotel. Hunt was released by the Kansas City Chiefs late in the 2018 season, but was not charged with a crime.

These are two examples of the NFL suspending a player despite not facing charges for legal matters. So, don’t be surprised if the NFL ends up suspending Stefon Diggs as well.

Stefon Diggs Was Released By Patriots In March

Despite helping the Patriots to a 14-win season and Super Bowl 60 appearance, Diggs was released by the club in March. Two months later, the 32-year-old remains a free agent.

The four-time Pro Bowler finished last season with 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. After releasing Diggs, the Pats signed former Green Bay Packers standout Romeo Doubs in free agency. Additionally, they’re expected to complete a trade for Philadelphia Eagles wideout AJ Brown next month.

Diggs will eventually sign with another NFL team, but it appears that clubs wish to see what potential punishment he may face before offering a contract.
