In a bold crossover between NFL stardom and college football leadership, Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby is stepping into a new role—this time off the field. The Eastern Michigan legend has officially been named Assistant General Manager of the Eagles football program, becoming the first active NFL player to hold a front-office position in NCAA athletics.

Crosby’s return to Ypsilanti isn’t just symbolic—it’s strategic. The All-Pro pass rusher, who has racked up 59.5 sacks in six seasons with the Raiders and signed a $106.5 million extension in March, will now help shape the next generation of Eastern Michigan talent. As Assistant GM, he’ll evaluate high school and transfer portal prospects and help manage the team’s NIL and revenue-sharing strategies.

“There is no place more important to my personal and athletic development than Eastern Michigan University,” Crosby said in a statement. He and his wife Rachel are also backing that sentiment with another donation to the program—after giving $1 million in 2023, they’ve launched the “Maxx Match,” pledging to match up to $100,000 in donations through May.

The timing of Crosby’s hire is no accident. With the spring transfer portal now open, his influence could be immediate. Not only does his name carry weight among recruits, but his passion for mentorship is already resonating inside the program. “Big-time edge rushers will want to come here—not just to play but to build a relationship with Maxx,” said head coach Chris Creighton.

Crosby, who owns the school’s all-time sack record (20), will also serve as Special Assistant to the Athletic Director, with responsibilities in fundraising, alumni relations, and athlete support. In today’s NIL-driven landscape, this dual-threat approach—football credibility and financial vision—is exactly what schools need.

Maxx Crosby’s move isn’t just a homecoming. It’s a first-of-its-kind statement. With real dollars behind his commitment and an NFL resume that recruits dream of, Crosby isn’t just making headlines—he’s making history.

EMU just turned the page. Other programs might want to start taking notes.
