The Tennessee Titans will have a different look to them when they take the field this fall.
Since rebranding to the Titans from the Tennessee Oilers in the late 1990s following their move from Houston, the franchise has mostly used navy blue as the primary color of its home jerseys. Beginning in 2003, the Titans introduced a light blue shade, called "Titan blue," which later became the main home color for a period of time but was more frequently used as an alternate option.
Now, Titan blue will be the shade of choice for the team's home games, starting in 2025. Tennessee announced the change on Thursday.
"We're talking to fans and we're listening, and there's a clear appetite to have the Titans, their team, represented on the field in this noticeable color that has been with this team from 1960 in Houston, into Memphis, at Vanderbilt and as we've played at Nissan Stadium," said Titans President and CEO Burke Nihill.
"We're going to emphasize that this year and change to Titans blue as the primary color. As we sit here today, the plan is to wear Titans blue at every one of our home games this year."
The Titans wore their Titan blue tops four times last season, including twice in the regular season.
Now, the look will become a fixture. When Tennessee makes the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft next month, whichever player it chooses--most likely Miami quarterback Cam Ward--will take the stage and hold up a Titan blue jersey.
"Our fans, our players, they love it," Nihill said. "The Titans blue has always been a part of this organization, and there is something that is uniquely this organization when that color is the dominant color.
"You see it, and you know the team that is being represented – it's the Titans."
We'll know the 2025 NFL schedule sometime next month, which will tell us when Tennessee will be rocking its lighter shade at home.
