There's lot of NFL teams that cast a wide net when looking for a new head coach, scouring the pro, college and sometimes even semi-pro ranks to find their leader. But one NFL team appears to be casting the net as wide as physically possible, posting an ad for the role on the massive employment listing website, Indeed.
The X user @NYJ_Matt was one of the first to note that the New York Jets had a new listing on Indeed for "Head Coach." We looked it up for ourselves and sure enough, the post was there. The Jets have been in the market for a new head coach ever since they fired Robert Saleh in October following a 2-3 start. Interim head coach Jeff Ulrich hasn't done much better, going just 2-8 since.
The job description for the position reads as follows: "The Head Coach of the New York Jets holds one of the most high-profile and demanding positions in the NFL, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the team’s performance, culture, and day-to-day operations." It then goes on to list a number of key responsibilities such as "Team Performance & Strategy" and "Player Development" among others.
But as hilarious as that sounds to see an NFL team looking for a new head coach on Indeed, a closer examination of the post makes it may not be authentic.
There are a few things that makes the job seem completely fake though, starting with the "Pay" section. It's listed as only $45,390 to $49,239 - peanuts compared to the millions that a head coach at almost any level of football makes.

Another is the logo, which uses a defunct logo that the Jets abandoned earlier this year. Unless the organization literally forgot to update its own logo on Indeed (not impossible), it's probably not the real organization.
Lastly, the "Teaching Details" highlights a "First grade" level, which suggests that the entire thing is a joke.
Were it any other NFL team, such a post could have been immediately written off as a fake. But the fact that it's the Jets, one of the most poorly-run sports franchises in the entire world, automatically gives people pause over whether it's true or not.
That's how much respect the team has lost over the past few years.
That said, if the resume of the next head coach of the Jets winds up being an Entry Level admin assistant, we'll know where they found him.
