NFL Tells Miami Hard Rock Stadium Not Eligible to Host Super Bowl

Brian Brandell of the Sports Business Journal reports that there will not be a Super Bowl played at Hard Rock Stadium anytime soon. At least for the next ten years to be exact.

According to Stephen Ross, the NFL has told him that it no longer meets the requirements to host the big game.

Ross’s son-in-law, Daniel Silman, explained to Brandell why this is now the case. He said that for a Super Bowl, you need room for hospitality around the event, and with the construction of the Miami Open and the Formula One racetrack, the Dolphins have reduced the open space around the stadium, making it no longer eligible to host the Super Bowl.

Silman believes they can find a solution to the open space problem.

Silman also said they are looking to host more international soccer events in the future at Hard Rock Stadium.

Ross, when speaking about this situation, said, “The one thing that suffered is Miami hasn’t gotten a Super Bowl here, and we normally have one every five years,” Ross said. “Miami is not really in line for one. It’s always exciting to have the Super Bowl but that was before we had all the other events. Miami has by far the best weather. It’s in their best interest to have one here but at this point they don’t believe we meet all the requirements and the demands.”

He also went on to say, “We are looking at how to make improvements,” Ross said. “I want to make the stadium always feel like a new stadium, we are looking at what the next phase will be and making the fan experience that much better.”

Miami has hosted the Super Bowl 11 times in the past, but with the 2027, 2028, and 2029 games already passed out to other cities, even if Dolphins ownership rushed through a bunch of upgrades to make Hard Rock Stadium meet the needs of the NFL to host the game, it will have been at least 10 years since the Super Bowl was in Miami by the time they get the next one.

If they ever get another one.
