NFL to Announce Punishment Decision After Patrick Mahomes Incident

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs took on the Miami Dolphins on the road on Sunday, as they looked to improve their record to 3-0 on the season.

Mahomes returned to the Chiefs lineup at the beginning of this season after suffering a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee in December last year. Through the first two weeks of the year, he has been great, completing 63.5% of his passes for 566 yards and five touchdowns with one interceptions.

On Sunday, the game between the Chiefs and Dolphins was close, as Kansas City had a long drive that ended in a field goal to give the Chiefs a seven point lead in the fourth quarter.

During the Chiefs’ field goal-scoring drive, Kansas City was back near its own end zone, in a 3rd down and nine situation from their own five. On the play, Mahomes threw an incomplete pass and was hit hard by Dolphins defensive end Chop Robinson.

As Robinson landed on Mahomes, he put his body weight on him, drawing a penalty flag for roughing the passer.

After this big penalty, Robinson and the Dolphins will be awaiting a punishment from the NFL. According to the league’s website, players who are penalized for roughing the passer are subject to a $17,911 fine on the first offense and a $23,882 fine on the player’s second offense.

The league will announce its punishments from Week 3 penalties on Saturday.

Mahomes and the Chiefs stayed undefeated on the year, as they took down the Dolphins 24-10 in Miami.
