Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby awaits the league’s decision on his unnecessary roughness penalty against the New England Patriots.
On Sunday, the Raiders suffered their second straight defeat, losing to the Patriots 45-17 in front of a hostile crowd at Gillette Stadium.
With the win, New England improved to 3-2. Star quarterback Drake Maye threw for 374 yards and four touchdowns, completing 26 of 34 passes. Meanwhile, Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins completed 19 of 28 passes for 243 yards and one touchdown.
After this latest loss, Las Vegas will now wait for the NFL’s decision on Crosby’s first-quarter personal foul.
The incident happened at the 11:23 mark of the opening quarter after Maye threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver DeMario Douglas. Crosby was flagged for unnecessary roughness during the ensuing extra-point attempt.
The extra point counted, and the 15-yard penalty was enforced between downs.
Crosby finished the game with one tackle, zero sacks and one penalty. He now awaits the league’s decision on a possible fine for his personal foul.
The NFL fines schedule does not have a specific fine listed for unnecessary roughness. The league will review the incident to determine which offense Crosby’s foul falls under, if at all. For context, a late hit carries a $11,941 fine for a first offense. Striking, on the other hand, is fined $12,537 for a first offense.
The league will announce its decision on Crosby’s penalty in the weekly accountability report, typically released every Saturday afternoon.
This was Las Vegas’ second straight defeat after a 3-0 start to the season. They will look to get back to winning ways in Week 6 when they host Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.
