While this is a matchup of two teams on completely different ends of the standings, it doesn't mean it can't be a fun NFC North matchup. There's betting value to be had when the Chicago Bears visit the Detroit Lions.
Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions: Betting Odds
Spread: Detroit -8, Over/under: 48 points, Chicago +310 | Detroit -395
Chicago comes into this owners of a 3-7 record, but they'll have QB Justin Fields back from a thumb surgery in what is a crucial stretch for him to prove he's a quarterback worth building around, or raise his stock for other teams, or both.
The Bears won last week, but their issues start on the defensive side of the football. Their run defense is quite stout but they've shown no ability to slow down opposing passing attacks. That might be a problem against this explosive Lions team.
Detroit is 7-2 on the season, second place in the NFC, and winners of two straight games. There's a real path here for the Lions to clinch home-field advantage, meaning there's plenty of motivation here to beat up on a weaker opponent.
Chicago is 3-5-2 ATS this season while the Lions own the best betting record in football at 7-2. The Bears are 6-4 to the over and Detroit is 5-4 to the over.
Is there really any other path here? This matchup just screams fun. The return of Justin Fields is much-welcomed, the Bears have averaged 20.5 points per game with Fields since the start of last season and 16.5 in the six games without him during that stretch.
Detroit's defense has obvious flaws, particularly at stopping the pass, which feels likely to be what the Bears do all game long facing a big deficit.
Meanwhile, Detroit's passing attack led by Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown should have themselves a day against this weak Chicago secondary.
The past two meetings between these teams has resulted in 51 and 61 total points. Grab this over and run! Chicago and Detroit are two of just nine teams to be going over at above a 50% clip this season.
