Week 12 is in the books, and wow, it was eventful. The whole nation thought that the Kansas City Chiefs were gone for good for the rest of 2025, but they were wrong. The other Super Bowl participant has some major questions to answer.
The Indianapolis Colts had the Chiefs on the ropes. They could have knocked down the AFC’s crown. Instead, Kansas City showed the heart of a champion and temporarily saved its season.
Things were looking bleak for the team of the decade. The Chiefs found themselves down 20-9 to start the fourth quarter. They could not afford to go 5-6 and the season.
A loss would have had Kansas City’s playoff chances on life support. Sitting at 5-6, with the Jacksonville Jaguars winning and going to 7-4, would have been nearly insurmountable. Right now, Kansas City sits at 10th in the AFC.
How did the Chiefs make the comeback? It was a full team effort. In the fourth quarter and overtime, Patrick Mahomes passed for over 230 yards. The wide receivers, such a Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy, made big plays on money downs.
There were conversions on fourth and three and third and seven late in the fourth to keep their hopes alive. The best quarterback in the league made plays when Kansas City needed them most.
It wasn’t just all Mahomes. That defense held one of the most prolific offenses to just 20 points. Jonathan Taylor, who has had an MVP-caliber season, had just 58 yards on 16 carries.
In the fourth quarter and overtime, Indianapolis had four straight three-and-outs. When the plays needed to be made down the stretch, the Chiefs made them.
Kansas City looked eerily similar to its 2024 counterparts. Making big-time plays when they were absolutely needed.
The Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys had the game of the week. Philly was up 21-0 on Dallas but then the Cowboys roared back to win the game 24-21.
Like the Chiefs, Dallas may have saved their season. They currently sit at 5-5-1 and have a real shot to make a playoff push down the stretch. First off, the Cowboys deserve massive credit for the comeback.
I don’t want to take anything away from Dallas because Dak and that offense were incredible, especially in the second half. The defense, which has been a laughing stock for most of the year, stepped it up big time.
The Cowboys held the Eagles to just 63 yards rushing and had a big sack on Jalen Hurts late in the fourth quarter. Overall, the Cowboys deserve all the credit in the world, but I think it’s worth noting how flawed the Eagles are and have been all year.
Philadelphia has done one thing well all year, and that is win. They are 8-3 and are second in the conference behind the Los Angeles Rams, but things have been far from pretty. This game was just an extension of their offensive woes.
The Eagles have now scored zero points in a half on four different occasions. The first half of week three, the second half of week four, the first half of week ten, and the second half of this last week.
Saquon Barkley’s struggles have continued as he has just 684 yards on 3.7 yards per carry. There is something very wrong with the offense, and we just don’t know what. Is it the offensive coordinator or the personnel?
Why has it been such a struggle all year long? Leading the league in drives ending in punts and three-and-outs is concerning. The only saving grace so far has been that Philly is winning games.
Winning is certainly the most important stat, but it can’t be the only stat to hang your hat on. There’s something wrong in Eagles Nation, and I don’t know if they can fix it.
Week 12 was a big week for both Super Bowl teams from last season. The Chiefs just saved their season, and the Eagles have major issues that they need to address.
Some other takeaways are that the Rams are a very good team. Matthew Stafford might win his first MVP as he has an insane touchdown-to-interception ratio of 15:1.
The Buccaneers might be in trouble if Baker Mayfield misses a lot of time. It was a crazy week 12, and I wonder what week 13 has in store for us!
