NFL Week 1: Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns betting picks, preview

A divisional game to start the season is always a good one, especially for bettors. It is interesting how quickly the Bengals kind of left the Browns in their dust on their rise, isn’t it? I suppose that is the difference between Baker and Burrow. Cleveland has a chance to make an early statement at home in the opener. It might be a betting trap though.

Odds: Cincinnati -2.5, Over/under 47.5, Cincinnati-135 | Cleveland +115

These are division rivals and the line has been coming down in some spots (I saw a -1) due to health concerns for Cincinnati QB Joe Burrow. Especially in the AFC North, backing the team you think is going to win outright is usually the way to go. Now that the line is moving toward the middle that approach is even more applicable. Cincinnati has the higher season-long ceiling but this is just Week 1, so don't let interest in the Browns fool you. 

Picks for Cincinnati vs. Cleveland

Cincinnati ML, Ja'Marr Chase Anytime TD (+100)

These teams split last season, each winning and covering at home. However, If you look a little closer you will see that Chase did not play in the loss at Cleveland. That is not the only reason I am backing the visitor more in this one though. Sure, Burrow is a question mark due to health, but Browns QB Deshaun Watson has yet to prove himself with Cleveland. I think the desire to get him off to a strong start will take away from the Browns' true strength which is running the ball with Nick Chubb. The Bengals have advantages on the sidelines and as long as Burrow is not compromised I am with Cincinnati. 

As for the prop bet: Chase is a monster and the Browns are the only AFC North team he has never scored against. Look for Cincy to be creative in the opener with their top weapon. He might even get this on the first drive. If Burrow is out there they are not going to hand off a ton. 

The way this number is moving though you probably want to wait. it might be a spread play if it swings all the way to the other side.
