There may not be a bigger disparity in quality of teams this weekend in the NFL than in this Carolina Panthers vs. Miami Dolphins game, leading to the second-largest spread of the week. Are the Dolphins worth grabbing even at such a large price?
Carolina Panthers vs. Miami Dolphins: Betting Odds
Spread: Miami -13.5, Over/under: 47.5 points, Carolina +650 | Miami -1000
Carolina sits at 0-5, and while QB Bryce Young has shown flashes in his first year, this team really lacks in talent across the board to support him. The Panthers have had some ugly losses, currently owning the third-worst point differential in the league.
Miami, meanwhile, has been explosive and exciting all year en route to a 4-1 start. Tua Tagovailoa is an MVP favorite, and the running game has been unstoppable with De'Von Achane and Raheem Mostert. Achane is out this week, but they have the depth to make it work regardless.
The Dolphins are 3-2 to the over and 4-1 ATS. The Panthers are 0-4-1 ATS and 2-3 to the over.
This spread is worth backing, even as a two-touchdown favorite. The Dolphins just covered with ease against the Giants, winning by 15, and there are a lot of parallels between New York and Carolina.
The clearest is the inability to slow down the run. The Panthers are allowing the fifth-most yards per rush attempt, and that's just a disaster-waiting-to-happen with this Dolphins offense on the other end. Miami is averaging the most rushing yards per game, and their outside zone rushing attack has been picking apart defenses with ease.
Achane has been great, but Raheem Mostert and soon-to-be-activated Jeff Wilson are more than talented enough to take advantage. That alone is going to run up this score, so back Miami and enjoy the touchdowns flowing in.
