Honestly, it's easy to see why fans would be willing to cheer for Philadelphia Eagles center Cam Jurgens.
He has one of the most challenging jobs in the NFL, replacing a legend in Jason Kelce, and doing it with such grace and appreciation. Jurgens has gone out of his way to speak highly of teammates, including the new right guard, Tyler Steen, and has kept his head down to work hard.
Those are part of the reasons NFL.com's Tom Blair included Jurgens on his list of players to root for on each NFL team. Blair picked one from each team, and Jurgens was the choice for the Eagles.
"The Tush Push Era lives on, and I have to say, I have become fully push-pilled, seduced by the otherworldly proficiency with which the Eagles are able to steamroll their way to key conversions. One of the appealing elements of the play is the way in which it gives a more visible role to the O-linemen who tend to fall out of the frame otherwise -- like Jurgens, who handled the task of taking over for Jason Kelce with aplomb last season, earning his first career Pro Bowl nod. If Jurgens continues to establish himself alongside his more veteran linemates like, and, he can help the Eagles keep, erm, pushing the evolution of the game."
Last year was Jurgens' first full season taking over for Kelce at center, and he performed well. He started 16 games and was named to his first Pro Bowl as he played a key role in not only executing the Tush Push at a high level again, but also winning the Super Bowl with the Eagles.
After the season, the Eagles rewarded him with a new four-year, $68 million contract extension, which has already received praise as one of the team's best moves of the offseason. Pro Football Focus also showed their respect to him as he ranked 13th among the top centers of the NFL after just one year of starting.
Jurgens isn't perfect, but he has room for improvement. However, every Eagles fan has his back, knowing he can be great. He has shown his dependability before last year, starting at guard and still waiting behind Kelce, and learn how to be a starting NFL center.
He's done all the right things and looks to be another Jeff Stoutland student of his "university" that could become an established top lineman in the league for a long time.
