NFL writer makes bold prediction for Giants QB Jaxson Dart

The New York Giants' quarterback plans have been a hot topic of discussion throughout the offseason.

Sports Illustrated's Conor Orr predicted on Wednesday that Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart will make 13 starts during the 2025 campaign.

Orr suggested that Giants fans should be realistic regarding Dart if he replaces Week 1 starter Russell Wilson in the lineup at some point this season.

"Dart’s rookie season will be incredibly difficult for the first-round pick out of Ole Miss," Orr wrote. "Dart’s Giants face the toughest slate in football. While rating strength of schedule can sometimes be a guessing game, New York’s features week after week of almost certain sure-fire playoff teams."

Specifically, the Giants open the season with a matchup at the Washington Commanders, who are coming off a trip to this year's NFC Championship Game. Big Blue then plays at the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 before hosting the Kansas City Chiefs, who are hungry and motivated following an ugly loss in Super Bowl LIX. The Giants then welcome the Los Angeles Chargers to MetLife Stadium in Week 4.

Orr believes "the only two logical places to drop Dart into the 2025 season are on the road in Week 5 against the (New Orleans Saints) and after the team’s very late bye in Week 14." As of Wednesday afternoon, only the Saints and Cleveland Browns had worse betting odds (+850) to make the playoffs this season than the Giants (+500), per DraftKings Sportsbook.

"Dart also has a porous offensive line that desperately needs to be codified before he starts taking serious snaps," Orr continued. "That’s why I think we’ll be talking in a complimentary way about his pocket navigation skills, which were impressive during a preseason in which he was under heavy duress. His ability to remain present downfield while evading rushers is elite."

Dart completed 32 of 47 pass attempts for 372 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions over three preseason appearances. He also rushed for 52 yards and an additional touchdown on six carries.

Despite these solid numbers, the Giants have made it clear they want Wilson to remain atop the depth chart. That said, head coach Brian Daboll could determine that Dart is the best quarterback on the roster if Wilson crumbles against the Commanders.
