Nick Mullens' 4-year-old pumped to see dad start for Vikings

One little Vikings fan is particularly excited to see Nick Mullens start on Saturday: his 4-year-old son.

Mullens told reporters on Wednesday that his young son will be making the trip to Cincinnati and will get the chance to see his dad start when the Vikings take on the Bengals at noon on CBS.

“Bless my wife. She’s like, ‘I don’t want to fly with two little boys.’ But then asked the 4-year-old, ‘Do you want to go?’” Mullens said. “He’s like, ‘Yeah, I want to go.’ So, I’m like, he wants to go let him go. She’s gonna have to fly with him, and it should be a fun experience.”

Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell announced that Mullens would get the start on Tuesday after he led the Vikings on their only scoring drive in Sunday’s 3-0 win at Las Vegas.

Mullens started eight games for San Francisco in both 2018 and 2020, but starts have few and far between in recent years.

His last start was for Cleveland on Dec. 20, 2021, when he completed 20-of-30 passes for 147 yards and a touchdown in a 16-14 loss to the Raiders.

Mullens threw for 2,277 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in eight starts 2018; and he had 2,437 yards, 12 touchdowns and 12 picks in eight starts 2020.

Mullens has thrown for 27 touchdowns and 23 interceptions in his career.

He’ll get the chance to show what he’s got again on Saturday, and his son will get a chance to watch his dad start an NFL game.
