Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni defended his late-game approach after Sunday’s heartbreaking loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He backed the offense’s decision-making but admitted he regretted what happened after Philadelphia gave the ball back.
“I stand by what I did in that situation,” Sirianni said, via NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Dave Zangaro. He pointed to the eight seconds remaining when Jacksonville regained possession.

But he defended the sequence that led to the Eagles’ go-ahead field goal despite it leaving 8 seconds on the clock for the Jags.
“I stand by what I did in that situation. Had 8 seconds left to go…
The Eagles had taken a late lead with Jake Elliott’s 48-yard field goal. Jalen Hurts helped guide the offense downfield, leaving Jacksonville little time to respond.
However, the ensuing kickoff changed everything. A major return gave the Jaguars an opportunity to attempt a game-winning field goal as time expired.
Sirianni stood by the offensive execution but took responsibility for his decision after the kickoff. The distinction matters: he defended the drive while acknowledging the final sequence that he regretted.
Hurts finished with 220 passing yards and a touchdown, completing 21 of 40 attempts. He also added two rushing yards, according to the supplied game statistics.
Elliott made his lone field-goal attempt, including the late kick that briefly put Philadelphia ahead. Those performances made the defeat even more painful for the Eagles.
Philadelphia fell to 2-3, according to the supplied standings, leaving little room for error in the NFC East race. The team must now address its late-game execution before its next divisional test.
The Eagles are scheduled to face the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7. Sirianni’s clock management and special teams decisions will remain under scrutiny as Philadelphia looks to respond.
For now, Sirianni is standing by his offensive strategy while accepting responsibility for the final sequence. The loss showed how quickly a game can unravel, even after a drive appears to deliver the winning points.
