Nick Sirianni Makes Stunning Eagles Decision for Season Opener Against Cowboys

The Philadelphia Eagles demolished the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 earlier this year in one of the more shocking Super Bowl outcomes of all time.

Nobody doubted that Philadelphia was talented enough to win, but blowing out Kansas City just doesn’t happen, especially not in the playoffs.

This led to many accepting the Eagles as one of the greatest teams of all time because of its dominant roster and nearly flawless playoff run.

Running back Saquon Barkley is undoubtedly the engine that drives the team, but quarterback Jalen Hurts is the heart and soul.

He’s become infamous for his cool, calm demeanor and it seems like that personality has permeated through the rest of the team, including to head coach Nick Sirianni.

Typically known for being loud and obnoxious on the sidelines, the esteemed coach had an interesting stance on what his team will be doing while their Super Bowl banner is being dropped.

Avoiding a Super Bowl Hangover

Sirianni announced that he, along with the entire team, will remain in the locker room while the banner is being revealed.

Hurts has spoken all offseason about the past being the past and having to go out and prove that the Eagles are worthy of being champions again.

Other players like left tackle Jordan Mailata have uttered similar sentiments, telling reporters that he doesn’t consider his team defending Super Bowl champions because it’s a new season and everyone has the same record.

This decision from Sirianni is a masterclass in humility as he refuses to let his team gain any hubris from the win and start believing they are above the work.

It's unlikely that would happen with a steady hand like Hurts leading the team, but Sirianni isn’t taking any chances.

In all fairness, Philadelphia suffered from a Super Bowl hangover when they won back in 2018, almost becoming one of the only defending champions in NFL history to miss the playoffs.

It took some late season heroics and a bit of help from teams around the league for them to sneak into the dance, so they are ensuring that doesn’t happen this time around.

This roster is almost entirely different from the one that won seven years ago, but the fabric of that run remains in the city.

The Eagles will open the season on Thursday, where they will take on their hated division rivals, the Dallas Cowboys.

It will be something to behold to see Dallas witness the banner being unveiled with the Eagles still in the locker room.

It’s unprecedented, but Philadelphia feels it’s necessary if they want to have the same success as they enjoyed last season.
