One of the great stories of training camp for the Philadelphia Eagles has been the play of undrafted rookie wide receiver Darius Cooper.
During the Eagles' 34-27 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in the preseason opener, Cooper caught six passes for 82 yards and a touchdown. He finished as the Eagles' leading receiver and worked his way up the depth chart.
During Saturday's practice, Cooper was getting some reps with the first team offense and was catching passes from Jalen Hurts. This represents significant progress for a player who was taking third-team reps not too long ago. It's a big credit to the work Cooper has done and the impression he has left on the coaching staff.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni spoke with the media just before Sunday's open practice at Lincoln Financial Field as he was asked about Cooper getting to work with the first team. Sirianni discussed how they evaluate all the players the same, and it was simple for Cooper.
"I think he's done a nice job earning some of those reps in there with those guys so you do that and you see that and you discuss that. There's not a day that goes by that Howie (Roseman) and I are not discussing the roster in his office and there's not an off day that goes by that we're not having a staff meeting discussing everything. That's just part of the evaluation process."

Cooper has been getting more reps with A.J. Brown still recovering from his injury, and DeVonta Smith has missed some time in camp. Terrace Marshall Jr. had also missed over two weeks of camp before coming back on Saturday healthy.
What has made Cooper such a great receiver so far is how good of a route runner he is, and he's got reliable hands. He's also able to make defenders miss in the open field and pick up those YAC yards.
There's still tough competition with Johnny Wilson, Ainias Smith, and Marshall all fighting for roster spots. Cooper was seen on special teams on Sunday, which could signal that his shot at making the roster also comes with how good he is there.
The task is not over for Cooper to make the 53-man roster, as he still has three weeks to make a more significant impression on Sirianni and Roseman, but he's at least doing all the right things to get there.
