Philadelphia Eagles fans were presented with a good news and bad news scenario at linebacker.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni spoke with the media before the team’s first training camp practice as he provided an updated on injured linebackers Jihaad Campbell and Nakobe Dean. The good news is Campbell is back and ready to go for camp. Dean is not going to be able to go yet and will be placed on the PUP list.

Campbell was recovering from his torn Labrum injury he had surgery on in the offseason. Dean is still recovering from his torn patellar tendon injury he suffered in the NFC Wild Card game against the Green Bay Packers.

How to make of Eagles’ linebackers injury updates

Getting the news that rookie first-round pick Campbell will practice is massive news. During offseason workouts, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio had originally thought Campbell wouldn’t be back until mid-August. This will finally give the young linebacker the chance to get on the field and practice.

Don’t expect Campbell to be with the first-team right away. That should still go to Jeremiah Trotter Jr. who filled in for Dean during offseason workouts.

It was a disappointment to see Dean not ready to go, but not a total surprise. He might be a close call on whether he’s ready to go for the Eagles’ Week 1 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

Trotter has been filling in as the starter and seems to be in a good spot that if Dean is not ready to go, he can still fill in. Regardless of the linebacker position, Campbell will not be rushed onto the field. He will be eased into the rotation since he missed OTA workouts.

The linebacker position will be one position to watch at training camp, but at least the team is secure in knowing that all of their rookies will be practicing during the most important time of the year.
