Nick Sirianni shares positive injury update on Eagles' first-round pick Jihaad Campbell ahead of NFL training camp practice

One of the biggest questions heading into Philadelphia Eagles NFL training camp was whether 2025 first-round pick linebacker Jihaad Campbell would practice following the shoulder surgery he underwent early in the offseason.

According to Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, Campbell will participate.

"You're going to see him out there today," Sirianni said. "It will be fun to get him out there and start working with him. He looks like he had a great summer, and excited to have him out there working."

Whether or not Campbell will be able to do everything remains to be seen, but regardless, this injury update is huge for Philly, especially considering he is projected to take on a large role in Year 1.

Sirianni explained the importance of having all players participate -- even if they can't go full speed.

"Anytime you're able to step out onto the field, it's huge because we look at every day of how we're trying to get better," Sirianni said. "Our goal in training camp is to get in great shape. Playing shape. You know, they came back ready for the conditioning test. They're in good shape, but now it's time to get in great playing shape because it's a little bit different. It's to work with great detail.

"Doing the ordinary things better than anybody else does it. How do we tackle better? How do we take care of the football better? How do we take the football away better? How do we fit blocks better? How do we take better angles on tackles?  Those will be emphasized. Coming together as a football team. That's so important this time of year. And you do that through suffering together."

Campbell, 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, came out of Alabama as a top-20 projection, so when the Eagles traded up just one spot to grab him at No. 31 overall, it felt like one of the greatest steals of the draft in the first round.

He wrapped up his final season with the Crimson Tide, leading the defense with 117 tackles, including 11.5 for a loss, five sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception. Campbell's outstanding performance earned him first-team All-SEC honors and made him a finalist for both the Bednarik and Butkus Awards.
