One would think that after Nick Sirianni and the Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl LIX to earn the franchise's second-ever championship, that Sirianni would get the respect he deserves. Well, not according to First Things First co-host Nick Wright, who recently ranked his top 10 NFL head coaches and didn't include Sirianni on his list.
Before we dive into Wright's rankings, it's worth reminding everyone that Wright is a Kansas City Chiefs apologist. This is relevant to mention, I promise.
"I would take Andy Reid, I would take Sean McVay, [Kevin] Wildes doesn't like Kyle Shanahan... I would take Jim Harbaugh, I would take Mike Tomlin," Wright said. "Does any of that feel disrespectful to Nick Sirianni?"
Okay so Wright's top five coaches in the league consist of Andy Reid, Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, Jim Harbaugh, and Mike Tomlin. While Eagles fans might not like seeing Sirianni excluded here, it might not be as rage-inducing as what was about to transpire in spots six through 10 on Wright's rankings.
"I would rather have Kevin O'Connell, Matt LaFleur, Pete Carroll, Dan Campbell, and Sean Payton over Nick Sirianni."
Again, Wright is a Chiefs apologist so take his rankings with a grain of salt. Of course he's going to have Reid first and truthfully, I know Eagles fans might be upset about that given the result of Super Bowl LIX but Reid has three Super Bowl wins (and one of those was against Sirianni and the Eagles). The rest of his top five includes two head coaches who have won Super Bowls.
As for six through 10, that's where fans could be a little more annoyed. Carroll and Payton both have Super Bowl wins but did so with other teams than the ones they're coaching now. Both of those coaches have also had down years where their teams haven't made the playoffs, something Sirianni hasn't experienced yet.
It's fine if Wright wants to pretend that he doesn't think Sirianni is a good coach. He has to get people to engage with him and leaving Sirianni off a list of the best head coaches in the league is a way for him to do that. Eagles fans have the last laugh for the time being, however, and that's all that matters right now.
