The Oklahoma Sooners just landed one of the best general managers that any football program in the country could have, and now, it's already showing to have an effect.
Jim Nagy, a former 18-year NFL scout and a huge reason that the Senior Bowl has been as successful as it is, has joined the Sooners and is looking to help them in the recruiting and transfer portal side of this new college football world. And, it's already paying off a bit, as one of the best players in the 2027 class has an interest in the Oklahoma Sooners.
The Sooners are still working on their 2026 class, as they only have four players committed at the time. But, it doesn't hurt to start on the 2027 class either, which currently doesn't have any players committed.
Cooper Witten is a top high school football player from Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Texas. He’s a sophomore in the class of 2027 and plays defensive back and linebacker. At 6'2" and 210 pounds, he’s fast, strong, and versatile, making him one of the best recruits in the country. Recruiting sites like 247Sports rank him as the No. 25 overall player and the No. 1 linebacker in his class.
He’s the son of Jason Witten, a former NFL star tight end who played 17 years, mostly with the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders, and now coaches Liberty Christian. The team won state championships in 2023 and 2024, going 14-0 in 2023. Cooper and his older brother C.J. helped make that happen.
As a freshman, Cooper had over 50 tackles, three blocked kicks, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. He also plays basketball and runs track, with solid 100-meter times of 11.03 and 11.06.
Colleges are already after him, with offers from schools like Baylor, Duke, Missouri, Oklahoma, and TCU. Growing up with a famous football dad, Cooper handles the pressure well and keeps improving. With two years of high school left, he’s on track to be a big name in football.
