Noah Fant Makes Bold Chris Olave Comparison

There aren't many wide receivers who can say they belong in the same conversation as Ja'Marr Chase. Over five seasons since entering the NFL, Chase has accumulated 6,837 yards and 54 touchdowns over 520 receptions.

Chase has become the standard for wide receivers in the NFL, making it difficult for receivers to be in the same conversation as him. Yet, New Orleans Saints tight end Noah Fant recently compared Chris Olaveto Chase.

Why Noah Fant Compared Chris Olave to Ja'Marr Chase

When comparing the two, Fant said, “Ja’Marr got a lot of targets a game, as he should have. He’s a great player, like, transcending WR. But I think Chris… he’s just as much up there… He’s a great player.”

Placing Olave in Chase's tier is bold, but Fant's praise comes with some basis. Olave delivered the best season of his career in 2025 as he recorded 100 receptions for 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns. This just ended up helping Olave secure a four-year, $132 million extension, which will keep him under contract through 2030.

Olave's combination of route running, separation ability and body control has made him one of the NFL's most polished receivers. 

Still, there is quite a gap between Olave and Chase, and a large part of this has to do with outside factors as well. Olave has the chance to prove the consistency factor this season with Tyler Shough returning as the quarterback, which should help Olave move closer to the top tier in the league. Fant has worked around both receivers now, so this comparison by Fant highlights the potential Olave has.
