Nobody Should Be Off Limits At Trade Deadline
The Miami Dolphins hit a new low with their embarrassing no-show against the Cleveland Browns last Sunday. The Dolphins showed no heart and looked like they didn’t even want to play on Sunday.
It’s gotten to the point where I’m not mad or angry as a fan because it’s been 25 years since we last won a playoff game, and this regime is a sinking ship, and we all knew it before the season started, so this 1-6 start shouldn’t surprise us.
With the NFL trading deadline approaching and the Dolphins going to go through another rebuild, they should be looking to unload players. Last week, reports emerged that teams were interested in trading for Jaylen Waddle. The Dolphins denied any interest in trading Waddle, which I believe is genuine.
However, any player can be had if the price is right. Remember, Chris Grier said the same thing about Laremy Tunsil, but found a desperate Houston Texans team to offer two first-round picks and two second-round picks. I’m not saying someone would offer that for Waddle, but someone could be desperate to offer a 1st round pick, and the Dolphins should consider that.
The same could be said for our best playmaker in running back De’Von Achane. Some teams could use a running back, and maybe a team would be willing to pay the price and not have to worry about paying Achane for at least another year, since he is on his rookie deal.
I don’t think either of those players is going anywhere, honestly, but if a team is desperate, take advantage of it.
The reality is that the Dolphins may look to unload some of their pass rushers, such as Bradley Chubb, Jaelen Phillips, or Mathew Judon, because teams contending, like the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Chargers, need pass rushers.
They probably won’t get a lot in return, but the reality is none of those guys are going to be on the roster next year because Jaelan Phillips and Matt Judon aren’t under contract next year, and Chubb will probably become a cap casualty with no guaranteed money left on his deal.
Running back Jaylen Wright could be someone else on the market, or maybe even defensive back Mincah Fitzpatrick.
The problem with the trade deadline is who will make the decisions, specifically whether Grier will be the one. Grier might not do that, but if the Dolphins are serious about change, owner Steph Ross should let him go and let someone else start the fire sale.
This team stinks worse than a skunk, and it must be blown up and ripped apart because it’s not a 1-year fix. It’s a multi-year fix, and the team needs to be regrouped from top to bottom. No one should be off limits on the roster because of this.
