Nolan Smith Reveals 'Coolest Thing' About Getting 1st NFL Sack
USA Today Sports

Philadelphia Eagles rookie linebacker Nolan Smith recently broke down the film on his first-career NFL sack in a 31-17 win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 7.

"Coolest thing about this moment man is just Fletcher Cox and BG being right there," Smith said. "You know those two vets, those two guys, you look up to them. For them to be right there in that moment, it just made my first sack even better. I think it's just crazy just being out there with them, and this play happening, and just BG and Fletch being the first people to come up to me, it means a lot. Especially looking up to 5-5 double nickel, that's what I call him."

Smith got his first-career sack late in the second quarter on Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. After the sack, he was greeted by Brandon Graham and Fletcher Cox who celebrated momentarily with him. Philadelphia would win comfortably after a strong second half, taking down the Dolphins in convincing fashion.

The Eagles drafted Smith with the No. 30 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of the University of Georgia. In limited playing time, he has recorded four tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack in seven games as a rookie.

Also there to celebrate with Smith after his sack was former Georgia teammates Jalen Carter and Nakobe Dean. Carter was the No. 9 overall pick this past April, and has been tearing it up as a rookie. The defensive tackle has 13 tackles, 3.5 sacks, five tackles for loss and two forced fumbles.

Next up for Philadelphia is a road game against the Washington Commanders on Sunday at 1 p.m.
