Notes from first practice of Titans training camp: OL struggles and T’Vondre Sweat debuts

Congratulations, you made it. Football is back and Tennessee Titans training camp is officially underway.

The Titans had their first practice of the 2024 season at Saint Thomas Sports Park on Wednesday. After a tumultuous and busy offseason, there are several storylines that will keep this year's camp exciting.

Some of those storylines are already rising to the surface on Day 1. Rookie defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat was on the practice field after a long hiatus during OTAs and the offensive line had some early struggles. Here are some notes and observations from the Titans' first practice of training camp.

- T'Vondre Sweat was on the practice field just as Brian Callahan hoped. Sweat participated in position drills and the live full team period of practice. When asked why he missed time in OTAs, the rookie defensive tackle chose not to give details, telling reporters to "ask the head coach."

- Ryan Stonehouse was also on the field and punting during the special teams period of practice. Stonehouse told me after practice that he has been encouraged and surprised by the progress he has made returning from injury. "Feeling the rush" while he punts in training camp is the next step in his recovery.

- It looked like a rough day for the Titans offensive line. There were at least 5, maybe close to 10 run plays that would have been shut down for a loss of yards during the full team period. Tennessee's defensive front got consistent penetration.

- While some of the operations could have been cleaner, Will Levis flashed with a couple dazzling throws in his limited opportunities. One perfectly placed sideline toss to Nick Westbrook-Ikhine was the highlight of the day offensively.

- I was encouraged by what I saw from Jamal Adams. Granted, it's only one practice, but Adams looked like had some burst from the safety position. He did well in coverage at nickel at recorded a "sack" of Will Levis after ripping through the line untouched.
