When you talk about the 2026 Notre Dame recruiting class, Carrollton (Ga.) Central star running back Jonaz Walton has somehow become an underrated member of the class. The Georgia standout is one of the very best running backs in the entire country, but has been slightly overshadowed in an elite recruiting class, at least by some.

Walton went viral on Monday, reminding Fighting Irish fans just how physically gifted he is. He put out a video of him squatting in the Central High School weight room. Without much difficulty, Walton put up an absurd 600 pounds on the bar.

On the field, Walton’s game is very reminiscent of former Ohio State star JK Dobbins. He has long speed and explosiveness, but the best part about Walton’s game is the insane lower leg drive. The contact balance that Walton possesses is pretty absurd.

Walton is very well-liked by each and everyone of the major recruiting platforms. He is currently ranked as a four-star player by all of the platforms, including the No. 127 overall player, and No. 10 running back in the 2026 recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite ranking. That ranking also has him rated as the No. 17 player in the state of Georgia, an area that the Irish staff has made a much greater priority over the years.

The offer list for Walton matches the high rankings for Walton as well. The Georgia star was no short of impressive options throughout his recruitment before he chose Notre Dame, holding scholarships from the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, Alabama, Michigan, Tennessee, USC, Florida, Auburn, Nebraska, South Carolina, and Florida State among a long list of others.

As a junior in 2024, Walton put together another tremendous season for Carrollton. In 12 games he played, Walton rushed for 1,387 yards and 14 touchdowns. The 5-9, 205-pound athlete also managed to haul in an additional 39 receptions for 646 yards and four more scores through the air, while also averaging North of 38 yards per kick return as well as a special teams weapon.

Along with Javian Osborne, Walton is a part of one of the very best running back duos we have seen from Notre Dame for some time now. They are both very different players, which is why they are such an intriguing pairing.
