Speaking to reporters ahead of Saturday’s practice, New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn officially ruled defensive end Jermaine Johnson out of Monday night’s Week 4 matchup against the Miami Dolphins due to an ankle injury.
Johnson also missed last week’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after he suffered the injury during Week 2’s 30-10 loss at the hands of the Buffalo Bills.
This season, the Florida State product who suffered a torn Achilles in Week 2 of last year has played 82 snaps, while generating six pressures, five hurries, four tackles, and a quarterback hit, equating to a solid 70.9 defensive grade from Pro Football Focus.
The loss of Johnson is a significant blow for the Jets, who lack proven depth at edge rusher.
New York could turn to fifth-round rookie Tyler Baron, who impressed in Johnson’s absence last week. Baron logged a quarterback pressure, two tackles, and a run stop across 25 defensive snaps, offering a glimpse of potential as the team searches for answers on the edge.
