Oddsmakers predict big rookie season for Ashton Jeanty

New Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty is expected to revolutionize the way the modern NFL sees the running game.

While that sounds like hyperbole, many are excited to see the most hyped running back prospect since Saquon Barkley take the NFL field for the first time. Jeanty was arguably the most electrifying player in college football last season, finishing second all-time for the most rushing yards in a single season with 2,601. With his rookie contract signed, it will not be long until the Boise State product gets to showcase his skills on the professional gridiron.

If the current odds are anything to go by, Jeanty’s first season in the NFL is expected to be a massive success.

Oddsmakers are expecting a season for the ages from Jeanty.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, not only is Jeanty expected to win Offensive Rookie of the Year with +270 odds, but his over/under on rushing yards has been set at 1050.5 on the year.

For a player just entering the league, the fact that oddsmakers already consider Jeanty a 1,000-yard rusher should give the Raiders an idea of the special talent they have at their disposal.

In order for Jeanty to live up to the hype, however, the Raiders must be able to help him play to his strengths. The additions of quarterback Geno Smith and second-round rookie wide receiver Jack Bech should help revitalize a passing game that had little behind tight end Brock Bowers and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers. If Smith performs as advertised, that would go a long way towards keeping opposing defenses honest and prevent them stacking the box against Jeanty.

The Raiders are currently projected to have 7.5 wins according to FanDuel, putting them firmly in the middle tier of NFL teams. Given the Raiders were a four-win outfit, even being in the middle of the NFL hierarchy would be a sign of positive progress. Jeanty living up to the early expectations would go a long way towards getting the Raiders there, if not even further.

A jump up the standings is possible for the Raiders, and Jeanty impressing early would be a great sign for the present and future.
