Odell Beckham Jr. explains how difficult it is to make $100 million last

“You give somebody a five-year, $100 million contract, what is it really?” Beckham said. “It’s five years for 60 (million). You’re getting taxed. Do the math, that’s 12 a year that you have to spend, use, save, invest, flaunt, whatever. I’mma buy a car, I’mma give my momma a house. Everything costs money. So, if you’re spending $4 million a year, that’s really $40 million over five years, eight a year.”

Through 2025, Beckham had made more than $101 million in his career. While his best years as a player were with the New York Giants, he won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022.

His comments immediately drew backlash and sparked debate about the validity of Beckham’s point. While professional athletes have a history of going bankrupt, even after amassing millions in career earnings, $100 million should be enough for anyone to make last.
