Odell Beckham Jr. reportedly waiting for Aaron Rodgers news before signing

It turns out free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. may be similar to New York Jets fans waiting for news on Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. 

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter offered an update on Beckham's status after Schefter reported that the Baltimore Ravens presented a contract offer to the 30-year-old receiver. 

"Who would've thought that Aaron Rodgers might be the single factor holding up Odell's signing in the end? But I think everybody -- including Odell Beckham Jr. -- is waiting to see if and when the Jets get a deal done with Aaron Rodgers, at which point Odell Beckham Jr. would have some interest in uniting forces with Aaron Rodgers and, obviously, the interest would be mutual with Rodgers having mentioned Beckham's name to the Jets front office during their visit," Schefter explained during an on-air appearance, per SNY. "So I think these two sides are waiting to see what happens." 

Along with the Jets and Ravens, Schefter named the Los Angeles Rams as a club that has "an interest" in signing Beckham this spring. Beckham spent a portion of the 2021 season with the Rams and caught a touchdown pass in their Super Bowl LVI victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. He also hasn't played in a meaningful game since he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during that same February 2022 contest. 

One report shared last week said the Jets "are the most likely landing spot" for Beckham, presumably because he wants to play alongside Rodgers. In pieces published earlier this week, both Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio and NBC Sports' Peter King suggested that the Jets and Packers could continue discussions about what seems to be an inevitable trade involving Rodgers through the hours leading up to the second round of the NFL Draft on April 28. 

ESPN's Rich Cimini reported Sunday that Beckham "is thought to be seeking a one-year deal for $15M" and also that "a deal in the $10M to $12M range seems more likely, with a chance to earn more with incentives."

Like the Jets, the Ravens currently are dealing with uncertainty regarding their quarterback situation. Baltimore secured Lamar Jackson's rights for 2023-24 via the non-exclusive franchise tag but hasn't yet signed him to a long-term extension as he allegedly looks to earn around $230M in fully guaranteed money this offseason.
