Kansas City Chiefs superfan Xaviar Babudar, who is also known as ChiefsAholic, was sentenced to 32 years in prison on May 12 for an Oklahoma robbery, ESPN reports.
He initially pled guilty in Oklahoma in March to robbery with a firearm, assault while masked or disguised and removing an electronic monitoring device, but now the sentencing has been determined.
Babudar had already pled guilty before U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs to charges related to a string of 11 robberies of financial institutions in seven different states. He is already serving a 17½-year federal sentence.
However, ESPN adds that "the Tulsa County district attorney's office wanted him to serve more time and sought a life sentence." However, the sentencing will run concurrently, meaning they will take place at the same time. He will still have to serve 14½ years in an Oklahoma penitentiary after his federal term ends.
"It was offensive to me that a serial robber could victimize as many hardworking Americans as this guy did all across the country and only receive 17½ years from the federal government," Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler said via ESPN. "My preference was for him to serve the rest of his life in prison. He caught another break today, but at least he's going to be serving some additional time, and my thoughts are with the victims who continue to be tormented by his violence."
Babudar's attorneys, Brett and Jay-Michael Swab explained that "his client's robbery spree was fueled by a gambling addiction and a troubled childhood that left him homeless," ESPN added.
Amazon has since produced a true-crime documentary, titled "ChiefsAholic: A Wolf in Chief’s Clothing," that details the story of Babudar's double life as an avid Kansas City fan and a bank robber. It was released on December 24, 2024 and Babudar is interviewed in the documentary along with others who were effected by his actions.
