Oklahoma Sooners enlist help from an NFL legend in recruiting elite local product who could be the next Sooners great

It's been a while since the state of Oklahoma has had a five-star recruit in state borders. Oklahoma has only had five five-stars since 2000, and the last one was defensive back Daxton Hill in 2019. There's another brewing for the class of 2027.

The next one is just down the road from the Oklahoma Sooners, and the Sooners have wasted little time in pursuing the elite blocker.

Cooper Hackett, from Fort Nelson, Oklahoma, is a class of 2027 recruit who is currently rated as the consensus top 2027 recruit in Oklahoma and the third overall offensive tackle. Per On3's Industry Ranking, Hackett is the 11th-ranked overall player in the class of 2027, with potential to rise.

The Sooners hosted Hackett and his family last week, and they reportedly made a strong impression on everyone involved. Hackett has taken two trips to Norman in June, and has enjoyed his visit each time.

This time, Oklahoma called in a former legend and current NFL superstar to help in his recruiting. Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson, the best right tackle in the league and a future first-ballot Hall of Famer, built a new workout facility north of Oklahoma City and invited Hackett to work out with him.

There are a lot of similarities between Hackett and Johnson athletically, which should turn the heads of Oklahoma fans, as Johnson is one of the most gifted linemen to ever play the game. Hackett learning from him should be a tremendous boon for his development.

Under offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh, the Sooners have been an NFL pipeline for linemen, with Bedenbaugh single-handedly producing more NFL draftees than several major schools. Oklahoma and Bedenbaugh landed a five-star in Michael Fasusi in their 2025 class. Hackett could be their heir apparent as their blindside blocker of the future.
