Oklahoma Sooners lose out on four-star recruit to inferior program after being predicted by everyone to land him

Oklahoma has been on fire the last few months, winning almost every single recruit that they wanted. But we all know how this goes -- you can't win them all.

And that rings true to what happened on Saturday, twice, really, but especially with a recruit that was favored to land with Oklahoma.

Sooners lose out on Jacob Eberhart

Jacob Eberhart, a four-star athlete from Kirkwood High School in St. Louis, Missouri, is a top prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, and one that Oklahoma really wanted because of his ability to play so many positions, and maybe even play on both sides of the ball.

He is supposed to be a Sooners right now by everything we have heard leading up to this, but Saturday taught us that you can't always believe everything from insiders -- sometimes they are wrong, and sometimes these kids switch up. It's fine, it happens, and it happened to Oklahoma.

Eberhart, a 6'1" and 200-pound athlete, shines as a wide receiver, corner, safety, and linebacker. There's no telling what the Sooners were going to do with him, but he was certainly going to be used. In his 2024 junior season, he had 42 catches for 795 yards and 15 touchdowns on offense, plus three interceptions on defense. His size, speed, and playmaking ability have drawn over 40 scholarship offers from schools like Alabama, Missouri, LSU, Oregon, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Ohio State.

Eberhart’s recruitment took off with 20 offers in January alone. In May 2025, he named the top seven of Alabama, Missouri, LSU, Oregon, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Illinois. Missouri stood out as he’s a local talent, coached by former NFL player Jeremy Maclin and mentored by his cousin, former Missouri star Markus Golden. But, they weren't even one of his two top options.

For the No. 4 player in Missouri by 247Sports, it was either Oklahoma or Illinois, and he went with the latter.
